The No-Cussing Club

Tuesday January 27, 2009

McKay Hatch is a teenager who started a club (The No-Cussing Club) to help teens clean up their language a bit. It's been getting a lot of positive attention, but some very negative -- and violent -- reactions, too.

Why do you think the No-Cussing Club has generated such strong reactions in some teens? Do you think swearing is a big deal, or is it something to just deal with? Share your thoughts in the Comments section below.

We are anonymous. We are legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. United as one. Divided as zero. Expect us.

I think the no cussing club is good. I need to stop cussing so much. I am going to get a swear jar ad put 25c in every time I cuss. People are acting negative to this because they think cussing is fun and they get away with it. They don’t want anyone taking away there”freedom of speech”. I would love to join a no cussing club. My mouth has gotten really bad.

I began to hang out with a group of people who were very bad about their language habits. I soon picked up on this too. It was not as if I were saying every other word as a curse, however, I was putting out the wrong sort of vibes. I have since stopped cussing. I haven’t said a single curse in months. I use words like “shoot” “crap” “dang” “poo”. It’s just as fun to say OH POO! that OH S***! And it makes me feel better too. No use in being profain when you can be cute. Haha

i think that the no-cussing club is good. i know that i cuss way to much and i need to clean it up….a lot….anyways when i started to high school i started to hang out with these people and my attitude and mouth started to get really bad. i think that i may start a cussing jar and put 25c into it…hopefully that will work!!

I think that is a GREAT idea! Because I know that I personally occasionally have trouble with cursing and whenever I slip up, I feel sooo bad about it. I totally agree with TM…why be profane? Cursing actually makes you sound stupid. It makes it seem that you have a really small vocabulary so you have to resort to vulgar language to get your point across…and that’s sad. Instead of using cuss words, find other words to describe how you feel! Cursing is soooo not worth it. And why sound stupid when you can sound smart? People really do respect people more when they sound smart…and if you stop cussing now, it will help in the work force later.

I think its a really smart idea. I need to stop cussing. It sounds weird but i feel bad when I cuss. Peole are being negative because they think they are cool if they cuss. I know I use to feel like that. Then i got smacked with reality. Its a big turn off if someone is swearing all the time guy or girl old or young we just need to stop.

Way to go McKay. You don’t let low lifers get to you with their lame name-calling, threats, and put-downs. They show their real colors with the cussing, and make themselves look like they have no common sense or regard for others.
If they only knew that GIGO is their life; Garbage In, Garbage Out. You show a better way to live. Keep it up!

Generally speaking, excessive foul language is an indication of poor vocabulary and/or low intelligence - the inability to express oneself adequately.

Anyone who tries to reduce the number of us younger people swearing all the time and instead, expressing ourselves intelligently, gets my vote :) Well done! x
