Are TV and Teen Depression Linked?

Wednesday February 4, 2009

Depression is a common problem among people both young and old, including teenagers. Especially teenagers, in fact.

A recent study at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School found that teens who watch a lot of TV have a greater risk of developing symptoms of depression when they become young adults. The findings indicate that the relationship between TV watching and depression is especially strong for guys.

Do you think TV and depression could be linked, or do you think that watching TV might just be a symptom of already being depressed? How can you best help a friend or family member who seems depressed. Sound off in the Comments section below.

I think tv and teen depression are strongly linked. being a teen myself i think i would know. my reasoning for this is that when you watch tv shows everything is always better then real life. its kinda hard to explain. Its like what debbies husband said in that movie knocked up, “Life is like everybody loves raymond except nothings funny”
