Does Your School Make You Wake Up Too Early?

From Holly Ashworth, About.com Guide   July 12, 2010

See More About:
Not that you want to be thinking about school in July, anyway. But on that first day of school, when you're tired from too little sleep and you complain about how lame it is that you have to wake up so early, you'll probably be right.

A new study found that if high school started just a half hour later (at 8:30, for instance, instead of 8:00), teens would get more sleep, be in better moods throughout the day, and even do better at school (which would probably put their teachers and parents in better moods, too).

I'm not suggesting that, when September rolls around, you saunter into class a half hour late and tell your teachers that they're oppressing your happiness.

But maybe if you and your friends (and even better, your parents and your friends' parents) show your principal & school board the new research, they'll realize that you don't have to wake up while it's still dark out to get a good education.
