| Teens sure seem to be waiting longer and longer to get their licenses these days. |
Why? A big reason is that teen unemployment rates are so high, meaning that car payments are harder to make. But that doesn't explain the fact that teens don't seem to care as much about getting their licenses anymore. For instance, 10% fewer teens in Colorado got licenses last year, even though more teens were eligible to take their driving tests.
What's going on? Is the thrill of driving not as exciting as it used to be? Are more teens content with riding bikes and taking public transportation? If you've got any theories, share them in the comments section below!

I got my license 2-3 weeks after I turned 16, and that was early for my friends.
One reason is that I think kids are babied these days. I have a friend who has had her temps for nearly a year and has driven maybe 10 of the required 50 hours to get an Ohio license. Why? She’s the youngest in her family and her mom works part time at the elementary school, she can drive my friend around wherever she needs to go.
Maybe this is just my friends, but I know a couple people who are TERRIFIED to drive. It’s scary for everyone at first, we’ve all been there, but for some reason they find it paralyzing. Idk, maybe our generation is just lazy.

I know a lot of people who don’t want to get their licenses immediately, and many of them won’t have cars immediately either. I probably won’t have a car immediately either, but I still want my license. Also, many teens I know say that having a license isn’t that great.
I know a few people who are afraid of driving, too. My older sister absolutely refuses to drive anymore. She says she’ll bike instead.
