Find Your Passion Through Volunteering

Volunteering isn't just for goody-two-shoes types. It's a way to find out what you're really interested in and do some good int the process.

Some Seattle teens are putting a new spin on their local chapter of the Audubon Society, a nonprofit organization that's dedicated to helping and appreciating wildlife, especially birds. You can do something similar in your community -- or something completely different, whether it's helping kids learn to read, organizing a tree-planting program, or spending time with the residents of a nursing home.

Teens: The Prey of Tobacco Companies?

Tobacco companies don't just make teens want to smoke, they make them want to smoke particular brands of cigarettes, according to a new study by the Office on Smoking and Health at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The researchers found that boys and girls tend to prefer different brands of cigarettes and that teens take in a ton of tobacco ads. Read the U.S. News & World Report story and let us know what you think by writing in the Comments section below.

Are TV and Teen Depression Linked?

Depression is a common problem among people both young and old, including teenagers. Especially teenagers, in fact.

A recent study at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School found that teens who watch a lot of TV have a greater risk of developing symptoms of depression when they become young adults. The findings indicate that the relationship between TV watching and depression is especially strong for guys.

The No-Cussing Club

McKay Hatch is a teenager who started a club (The No-Cussing Club) to help teens clean up their language a bit. It's been getting a lot of positive attention, but some very negative -- and violent -- reactions, too.
