Silver RavenWolf is a mother of four, a best selling author, a Wiccan Priestess and Director of the International Wiccan/Pagan Press Alliance. She has written several definitive books for the modern Witch. Her non-fiction titles include: To Light a Sacred Flame, To Ride a Silver Broomstick and Angels: Companions in Magic. She has also started a collection of fiction books for teens that called Witches' Chillers. The stories center around a Wiccan heroine named Bethany Salem. The first of these mystery/occult books is called Witches Night Out and the second in the series, titled Witches Night of Fear, is due out in February 2001. The Teen Witch book has a companion Teen Witch Kit and desktop calendar.
As the mother of four teen witches RavenWolf knew that accurate resources for Wiccan teens were hard to find. Since Paganism is the fastest growing religious sect in North America, with teens showing an increasing interest in the Craft, RavenWolf felt it was time to set the record straight about Wicca and Witches. Teen Witch is an effort to educate interested teens about Wicca while dispelling the common myths and fears that plague it's followers.
Teen Witch is a guide to Wiccan living written in "Teen Speak". The book discusses the 13 Principles of Belief, the significance of certain symbols and rituals, the history of Witches in Western culture and the holidays and observances celebrated by Wiccans and Pagans. It addresses Wiccan stereotypes and introduces teens to the truth about what it means to be a witch. To combat the sensationalized "hollywood" image of what a Witch looks like RavenWolf writes:
"If you dress up like that real witches will laugh at you."
RavenWolf makes it clear that a true Wiccan path is one of respect for nature and the cosmos, respect for others, respect for oneself and doing good and never doing harm.
This book is an essential for anyone interested in learning the truth about Wicca and Wiccan Magick. It is great for teens and young adults who are curious about Wicca, Paganism or the occult. Anyone who is feeling lost, who lacks direction in their life or who feels let down by mainstream religion will find this book interesting. Parents, educators and counselors who deal with teens (especially Wiccan teens) are strongly urged to take
a good look at this book and it's message.
