TELLING IS NOT TATTLING WHEN SAFETY IS AT STAKE!

Report-it.com is an online, anonymous reporting system and helpline that encourages students to communicate. In an ongoing study of school shootings, the Secret Service is finding that in almost every case, school shooters have shared their plans in advance and no one reported it. Students have the best understanding about what is going on in their school, but can be reluctant to share information because:

  • they fear retaliation
  • they do not take rumors or threats seriously enough to report
  • they are uncertain of whom to tell
Report-it.com eliminates these concerns.

The site's objective is to work with schools to implement a system that will improve communication. Founded in May of 1999, the mission of Report-it is to supply a tool that students can use without fear of reprisal when they believe their safety or the safety of others is at risk. Students can report threats of violence, bullying or other concerns, and connect to drug, alcohol and abuse resources, both locally and nationally. Through this web site they are also able to seek out their own individual school resources displayed on their own Report-it.com school web page.

Report-it.com currently provides service to schools in New York, New Jersey, Arizona, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Washington, DC with many others to follow this year.

Children need not shoulder the guilt of knowing they could have made a difference had they reported it.
