• QUIZ:
  Are you a good friend?

This is by far the most common reason people need to renew their bud-building skills. If summer school, a job, or a family vacation have kept you away from you regular crew you may find yourself feeling on the "outs". The most important thing to remember is that these people never stopped being your friends, you just haven't seen each other in a while. Chances are that they haven't changed all that much and have lots of new things to tell you.

Open the lines of communication by asking them what you missed and then tell them what you have been up to that kept you out of the loop. If you went on a trip to Europe your friends are sure to want to hear about it. If you were hard at work, tell them how much you saved for your new car, prom night, college tuition, whatever. If you were in school, tell them how much you hated missing the fun. The best way to get back "in" with your friends is to spend catch up time with them; ask lots of questions, volunteer lots of info about what you did, and act as if you were never gone.

When they talk about times you missed out on say something like; "Man, that sounds so amazing! I really wish I was there." Stay a part of the conversation, just because you weren't there doesn't mean you can get in on the reminiscing. Keep on top of things and don't sulk or act as if you feel excluded and you'll be back on track well before first report cards.
