7 Things to Do on Valentine's Day if You're Single

Ideas for Single Teens on Valentine's Day

By

If you don't have a date this Valentine's Day, don't stay at home and pout. This holiday can be just as fun for singles as it is for couples. On February 14th, pick one of these teenage Valentine ideas and make some memories!

1. Have a Fondue Party

The best part about Valentine's Day isn't the lovey-dovey stuff - it's the chocolate. And there's no funner way to eat chocolate than fondue. You just melt some down and dip whatever you want into it! Here's an easy recipe for peanut butter chocolate fondue. Cook it up, prepare some stuff to dip and enjoy it with a couple of friends.

2. Organize a Battle of the Sexes

Round up a coed group of single friends (don't forget to invite your and your friends' crushes, of course) and play a boys-versus-girls game of bowling, putt putt or Wii. You might be single for now, but who knows what a fun day of competition might cook up.

3. Volunteer

Valentine's Day is all about love, and nothing spreads the love faster than a little volunteer work. Find a place to volunteer or just spend some time with an elderly relative. After all, if you can't find a date, you'd might as well make all of your romantically-inclined friends feel shallow. (Just kidding.)

4. Spread Door-to-Door Valentine's Day Cheer

Since Valentine's Day falls on a weekend this year, you won't be able to pass out goodies to your friends at school. Instead, pair up with a friend, make some cute Valentines and hunt down your classmates at their homes. Here's a ton of tips for making your own paper Valentines and heart-shaped treats.

5. Take a Yoga Class

If you're feeling heartbroken this Valentine's Day, an Anusara-style yoga class (or any style of yoga, really) will literally teach you how to open your heart again. And most instructors are totally patient with people who are brand new to the practice. If you're not sure where to find a beginners' class, here's a good place to start.

6. Walk a Foster Puppy

If there aren't any humans nearby who are looking for love, give your heart to someone of a different species. Animal shelters often lend out their pups for a couple of hours of exercise (and if not, they might need your help at the shelter). Find an animal shelter in your area - just be careful not to get too attached to your new friend if your folks aren't planning on adopting anyone.

7. Host a Very Scary Movie Marathon

If you're single, watching romantic movies on Valentine's Day might put you in a bad mood. Instead, get a group of friends together and watch some fun horror flicks. My recommendation for movie #1: My Bloody Valentine 3D. (A warning: it's super, super violent!)
