"He Had Been Sleeping With Our Mutual Friend"

Share Your Story: My First Breakup

From falling apart so i can fall into place

How Long Had You Been Dating Before the Breakup?

13 days before our one year

Who Broke Up with Whom?

he left me

How Did the Breakup Go Down?

He said he would give anything to spend the rest of his life with me. He was my best friend and the love of my life.

13 days before our one year, he called to tell me that our mutual friend (one of those sleep around, new guy every week kind of girls, but she was also sweet and close to him) had always liked him. I trusted them to hang out together. He told me I had nothing to worry about - he loved me and that was all that mattered.

Nope - he had been sleeping w/her.

He called me 6 hours later saying he was leaving me

for her

She is really rude and I can't stand her.

I still love him, even after all this.

How Did You Get Over the Breakup?

I haven't yet

It's been really hard, lots of back and forth going through my head

Half of me thinks he's a jerk and I'm over it

But another part aches for the love I found in him

I know he's gone, but my heart doesn't want to understand, doesn't want to let go

Unfortunately, she is drum major and he is the percussion captain in the band at my school. I am section leader, so I have to see them every day

She is extremely rude to me, but only to me; everyone thinks she's an angel but I'm the only one who sees her other side

At this point, my focus is on bettering the lives of people around me and making a difference

Lessons Learned

  • To get over:
  • make goals for yourself, in grades, in sports, in music
  • distract your mind and focus on making other people around you happy instead of sitting there in your own sorrow
  • take some time on your own to grow as a person, look inside and find the person you want to be remembered as 50 years from now
  • get over your own problems - somewhere out there are hundreds of people whose lives and daily struggles are much worse than your own. Realize that, and help others as much as possible
  • I wouldn't change a thing.
  • you'll never get to where you're going unless you face the struggles along the way
