"She Sent Me a Text"

Share Your Story: My First Breakup

From Brad

How Long Had You Been Dating Before the Breakup?

Just about 4 Months

Who Broke Up with Whom?

She broke up with me

How Did the Breakup Go Down?

During the last couple weeks things felt kinda weird. And on the day she left she sent a text saying, "Sweetie I love you so much but I don't like the way things are working out..." And I knew it was over.

How Did You Get Over the Breakup?

I'm not totally over it to this day, but one thing that is helping is having good friends. Getting out and going places is good too, but avoid going to places that you and your ex used to go to together, as this will only bring back memories. Write poems or music (Trust me, music heals the soul. As a musician myself, writing a new song is like taking my feelings and putting them on paper instead of keeping them bottled up inside of me. You feel so much better after.) Go hang out with friends and have some fun. Find your hobbies and dedicate yourself to them. Just live it up, life is too short for regrets.

Lessons Learned

  • Don't give your heart to someone so easily
  • Never love someone "too much".
  • Know your purpose in life. So many teen relationships fall apart because they don't know what makes them happy in life so they become dependent on their relationship to make them happy, and when it goes wrong and ends, everything falls apart. So find what truly makes you happy in life first.
  • Learn from your mistakes and work on your flaws. You will never be perfect, but you can fix as much as you can and take what you've learned with you.
  • Love is Bittersweet.
  • "Above all else guard your heart, For it is the wellspring of life."
