Who and Where?

My first kiss was in a school play! It was with a fellow actor who was 2 years older than me.

How Did it Happen?

When reading through the script, there was one long scene between our characters on their own. My character was described as "glamourous" and "seductive" and his as "theatrical" and "playful". I had never played an adult part before - I had always played the little girl and I knew the whole school had to come and watch the play - nervous much?!

Well, in the scene I was basically doing a full-on-seduction act which originally was really awkward as the guy I was seducing is an emo in real life and I didn't know him at all. At the end of the scene, basically we are going to go sleep with each other and we are on a sofa: him with his arm round me and we kiss until the lights go down.

In rehearsal we had ended the scene just hugging but in the dress rehearsal the director had said he wanted a real kiss.

I was really nervous but just got really into the character, and when it came to it we were just looking into each others eyes. Then I glanced at his lips and just put my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes and kind of leant upwards. Next thing I know his lips are on mine, slightly moist and (it's kind of weird) but I was really turned on because he smelt SO good!! We just hold the kiss for about 10 seconds (the lights didn't go down!) but it didn't feel awkward at all. Then I think we both smiled and broke off at the same time and jumped up and walked off-stage.

We had to repeat the kiss every night for 4 nights so we kissed 5 times. On the penultimate night he like nibbled on my lip (it's hard to describe) but it was more like we were making out. No tongues, but open-mouthed. And on the last night I guess we really went for it! We were alternating between top and bottom lip and I was kind of sad when it was all over because I'll probably never kiss him again.

Advice

  • Don't stress about it - I was really nervous but you just have to relax and trust that it will come naturally.
  • Be strong when the gossip comes - I got really teased that I kissed "the emo kid" but you've just got to ride it out and it may do good things for your reputation if people think you are a good kisser.
  • Enjoy it! Don't be afraid to smile during a kiss - it lets the other person know you are enjoying it.
  • If you end up having your first kiss in a play and you are embarrassed about it: just lie and say you've kissed someone out of school. It means they will not feel pressurised about making it good for you
