"I Would Have Fallen if He Hadn't Caught Me"

Share Your Story: My First Love

From Abby

Who Was It With?

My best friend. We met in daycare and soon we were inseparable.

When Did You Realize It was Love?

At his sister's wedding

What Did It Feel Like?

The scariest yet safest thing ever.

What Happened Next?

At the wedding reception David was called away to take pictures, I walked down to the dock. I was there for a while and didn’t notice David come up behind me.

"Beautiful isn't it?"

I spun around, lost my footing and would have fallen into the water if David hadn't caught me. He wrapped his arms around my waist and my arms went around his neck. We stood like this staring into each other's eyes for a long moment then David spoke.

"Abby I need to tell you something." He let go of me and stepped back.

"Um..OK."

"Its um..something I've been wanting to tell you..um..but was afraid of what you would do."

"David, you can tell me anything."

"Just promise?" he took my hands in his "That no matter what happens we will still be friends."

"I promise."

"Ok." he looked deep into my eyes. “I’m in love you Abby."

I felt my jaw drop just slightly.

David looked at me and sighed. "You know what just do us both a favor and forget that I said that." he turned away from me.

I didn't know what to do. all I wanted was for it to be as easy as it was when we were kids, but it still was.

"Why would I do that?"

David turned to me "What?"

"You told me you love me. It took you telling me for me to realize that I love you too."

He smiled and pulled me close then kissed me. For a long moment we just kissed, but it was interrupted by lights suddenly turning on. At the end of the dock was a crowd laughing and cheering.

“No Abby-“

I didn’t let him finish I ran down the dock and pushed through the crowd. I ran until I couldn’t anymore. I sat on the sidewalk and cried under a street lamp.

“Abby?”

I glared at and stood. I stepped off the sidewalk and fell as my ankle twisted and I heard a snap.

“Abby!” instantly he was at my side.

“I’m fine leave me alone!” I pushed him away, but I couldn’t get up. “Is this all just a game to you?”

“come on you know me. I’m not that mean.”

I bit my lip. “I’m scared. I’ve never felt like this before.”

David hugged me. “Maybe that’s a good thing.” He pulled back and pointed to a scar he had gotten from a fight because a boy had picked on me. “Just like then I’m here to keep you safe.”

He was then and still is now.
