"I was Such a Happy Person"

Share Your Story: My First Love

From Diiddy

Who Was It With?

My ex-boyfriend, Douglas.

When Did You Realize It was Love?

The moment it the relationship ended.

What Did It Feel Like?

Incredible. It was almost like it had unleashed another part of me into the world..

What Happened Next?

It all started off when we were 11. I met him through a friend in my class, as we used to take the same bus home together. One day, he introduced me to his friend Douglas. I didn't take a huge interest into him at first. Then we started bonding really well as the months went by, then soon enough, he was a great friend of mine.

Then he started asking to meet up on the weekends, after school etc, so we did. We used to go to this beautiful pond with a bench usually. On other occasions we'd go elsewhere; my house; his house; town; cinema etc.

Then one night, we were having a chat on MSN and he sent me a message when I was offline saying 'What would you say if I told you I love you?' I didn't know what to answer, so I just left it. But ever since he had sent me that message, I started to have a huge crush on him, the crush got even bigger when one Valentines' Day I slept round his house. So it was a few days before my birthday, and he asked me out, so I of course, said yes. I was overjoyed.

So then the relationship began, we bonded really well all of the time and I was such a happy person, I had great friends, going to a great school, and had a great boyfriend, what could be better? There's one memory I can't forget with Douglas, when one night we spoke about our future, as if we were soulmates, which I naively thought we were. The months went by, and more and more and more, and before I knew it a year and a half had gone by! Then one day so suddenly, he sent me a message about 10pm, saying it was over.

I just sat there, staring at the ceiling for hours, wondering what went wrong. What went wrong? I don't know.. I was extremely upset, not because he dumped me, because he didn't tell me why. Then the next day he came up to me apologising saying he was being stupid, and he asked me back out. I needed to think about this, but for no apparent reason, I did say yes. I didn't know how it was going to turn out, but I turned out okay.. For a few weeks anyway. About 4 weeks after that he just sent me another message saying 'I'm breaking up with you.'

The only thought I had was 'That's it.' It was finished. A few weeks went by, and it still tore me up when I saw him in the street, it made me feel horrible. Then eventually we started talking less, then we never spoke again. Weirdly, my family and I moved house a few weeks after the split, which made things easier. So I never saw him again, and to this day, I still don't know why he dumped me.

Lessons Learned

  • Love is overrated, and it's the biggest heartbreaker.
  • People change faster than you think.
  • Don't fall in love until you're a little older..
